Chaperone and Camp Counselor Training Workshop
On Friday, July 4, 2025, Project Discovery Barbados (PDBds) in association with Republic Bank Power to Make A Difference programme hosted the second workshop in their series on Youth Development training for CARYFED 2025. The workshop was conducted at the YMCA in Pinfold Street.
Seventeen persons, representing PDBds, YMCA youth Leadership programme, and Caribbean Baptist Alliance, participated in the workshop.
Areas covered included:
Leadership roles.
Laws regarding supervising minors or youth.
Protocols and procedures regarding aspects of duty of care.
Appropriate communication: verbal and non-verbal
Conflict resolution
Team building activities
The workshop was conducted by Mr Tyrone King. Mr King is a retired educator with over 3 decades of experience directing camps and co-ordinating regional youth forums. His experience as a camp director and forum coordinator extends across Day Camps, sleep-over camps and residential forums/conferences.
Fifteen (15) of the seventeen (17) participants were teenagers or young adults. The forum was very well received, especially by younger persons who are registered by their respective organizations to be first-time counselors or chaperones at camps and forums in the summer of 2025.
